From the daily mail

There were 56 passengers, including two infants and a child, and 10 crew on the flight. The airline said the aircraft was 'fading' when air traffic control lost contact with the plane at 02:45 Cairo time as it flew at 37,000ft.

Fading??? Is this an aviation term? Sounds like something from The langoliers

= 66 poor buggers dead in the sea then.

Let's hope they can at least find it for a bit of closure for the families.

Having flown Egypt AIr many times I am amazed they have equipment such as radar !
Either that or the pilot got lost /set a wrong course direction.A truly woeful Airline

Re: Egyptair States A Flight From Paris Has Disappeared From Radar
They are saying they had a 'distress signal' from the planes equipment but haven't yet said anything about the pilots sending one.

Hmmmm.

Flying terrifies me, especially at night. Can be OK on day flights, but coming back across the Atlantic in the pitch black (like airfrance in 09) is horrible.

Worst way to go. RIP

Re: Egyptair States A Flight From Paris Has Disappeared From Radar
Distress signals are sent from beacons attached to slides/external parts etc when they enter water.

The strangest thing with the airbus is the engines communicate with airbus in toulose via satellite every 10 minutes - they must know the location of the plane

Re: Egyptair States A Flight From Paris Has Disappeared From Radar
Jean-Paul Troadec, the former chief of France’s air accident investigation unit, the BEA, said the disappearance suggested a "brutal event" and was “almost certainly” caused by “an attack

The plane took off from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport at 11.09pm and went missing at 2.45am on route to Cairo International

The Greek Merchant Navy has reported seeing a "flame in the sky" in the south Mediterranean

Flew back from Miami a few months back at night after a savage weekend on the piss and whatever else.

It was fucking horrific. Closest I've been to crying in a long, long time.

Flying across the Atlantic with all it's jet streams etc can be horrendous.

Re: Egyptair States A Flight From Paris Has Disappeared From Radar
the plane went out of control, hydraulic failure or some one got access to the flight control or the pilot/s.

3 air marshalls on the flight cant see how any one got in the cabin

Re: Egyptair States A Flight From Paris Has Disappeared From Radar
Probably not as horrific or horrendous as what happened to the passengers and crew on this plane.

Re: Egyptair States A Flight From Paris Has Disappeared From Radar
I once rocked up for a 13 hour flight to Kuala Lumpur the day after Glastonbury finished. I'd been there for five days doing all sorts.

Spent most of the 13 hours trying to convince myself not to try to get out of the plane.

That was horrific.
